This November brings meaningful opportunities to honor the men and women who have served our country as communities across Douglas County and the greater Denver metro area come together to celebrate our country’s veterans.
Whether you’re a veteran yourself, a family member, or simply someone who wants to show appreciation, here are some ways to take part and honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans through a variety of events.
The Highlands Ranch Community Association will be hosting a Veterans Concert honoring those who served on Nov. 6 at the Highlands Ranch Mansion at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy patriotic music, moving tributes, and community spirit as we celebrate our heroes with gratitude and song. Head to Denver City Park on Nov. 8 for the 16th annual Denver Veterans Day Run, Festival, and Parade held by the Colorado Veterans Project to celebrate and honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Opening remarks precede the 10k ruck, 10k run, and 5k run/walk at 8:15 a.m. and the parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Events end at 2:30 p.m. Find all the details here.
Also on Nov. 8, Douglas County and the Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation are hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Monument Plaza in Castle Rock. Find all the details here.
The City of Lone Tree Living & Aging Well Commission welcomes Hank Wyeno, who will discuss Medal of Honor Recipients, to their Nov. 10 luncheon. The lunch will be at the Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel at 11:30 a.m. You must register in advance.
The Cherokee Ranch and Castle Foundation will offer a free tour of the castle for U.S. Military Veterans on Nov. 11. A guided Tour of the Castle offers an intimate look upon one of Colorado’s finest hidden gems and all of the treasures housed inside. Pastries and a presentation will start at 10 a.m. and the tour will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Learn more and register.
On Nov. 11, honor veterans at the annual Highlands Ranch Veterans Day Celebration at 6:30 p.m. at the Highlands Ranch Library. This free celebration includes patriotic music from the Highlands Ranch Concert Band and a color guard. The guest speaker will be Colorado veteran and historian Flint Whitlock. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and visit the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument, located outside of the library, prior to the event. Learn more.
