Landmark Lectures – A Channel Through Time: The History and Legacy of the High Line Canal

May 4 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

$33.85

Explore the origins, development and evolution of the High Line Canal with historian Rachel Stenz. Built to bring water to the arid plains of Colorado in the late 19th century, the canal has transformed from an irrigation system to a cherished recreational and cultural landmark. Through historic photos, community stories, and existing historic sites along the canal, this evening will trace how the High Line Canal shaped local communities and continues to connect people across generations.

Stenz is a public historian who is passionate about using historic preservation and environmental history to foster community and connection. She earned her B.A. in History from Pepperdine University and M.A. in History from Colorado State University. Throughout her academic and professional work, Rachel has focused on collaborative, community-driven approaches to history. She believes in sharing authority, listening to local voices, and using tools like oral history and interdisciplinary work to tell meaningful stories. She is especially interested in how public spaces can preserve historical narratives and bring local communities together.
