Geology Hike
July 11 @ 8:00 am
This hike focuses on interpreting the beautiful landscape of Cherokee Ranch. The hike goes over Raccoon Knob and Cherokee Mountain. Participants will learn how to interpret the sedimentary layers and decode the past. Massive floods, deadly volcanic eruptions, and the flood plain of an ancient river containing trees are just some of the amazing geology.
Moderate: A moderate hike is between 1 and 3 miles and typically follows primitive trails with limited elevation gains. There may be some steep off-trail hiking. These hikes are suitable for most people in good physical condition.
Reservations include access to Cherokee Land for the hike. Must be 12 years or older. Please bring sunscreen, a water bottle and come in proper hiking attire, including closed-toe shoes or boots. Long pants are recommended. Feel free to bring camping stools or blankets for use during stopping points on the hike for historical discussions.
