How Douglas County Is Marking America 250 and Colorado 150
In 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which is our nation’s semiquincentennial. At the same time, Colorado will mark the 150th anniversary of our entrance into the Union, our state’s sesquicentennial. As the Centennial State, Colorado is the only one who will observe twin anniversaries – our Sesquisemiquincentennial.

This year is a time to honor Colorado’s shared history as it is celebrated through community events, educational opportunities, statewide celebrations, and more. In Douglas County, special events are being planned to highlight the occasion.
Castle Rock
The Town of Castle Rock’s plan to celebrate America 250 – Colorado 150 include hanging banners and other patriotic displays, illuminating the Star atop the Rock from July through Colorado Day, Aug. 1, and installing public art at Rock Park Open Space. Several special events will be held to celebrate the sesquisemiquincentennial, including celebrations on Flag Day (June 14), the Fourth of July and Colorado Day (Aug. 1). As part of the Colorado Day celebration, there will be a special concert by Fitz and the Tantrums. Learn more about special events.
Local grants are available to support neighborhood events honoring the anniversary. Learn more about grant opportunities.

There will also be a free Colorado 150 Celebration on Aug. 1 at Town Center. This one-day festival brings together music, food, and culture from across our state. Enjoy live music and explore Colorado-themed vendors, food, and craft beverages. Learn more about the event.
At the Summer Sunset Concert on Aug. 22, there will be a special drone show, Stories in the Sky, to commemorate the anniversary. Celebrate the end of summer with live music and food trucks followed by the drone show. Learn more about the event.
