Daniels Park
Best for: mountain views, visitors, photos, a romantic evening
This is probably the star of the list. Daniels Park in Sedalia sits on a mesa with sweeping views of the Front Range, and it’s one of those places where the sunset feels very “Colorado.” You may even spot the park’s resident bison herd while you’re there.
Good to Know: This is a very popular sunset viewing spot, so bring a picnic blanket and arrive 30-45 minutes before sunset to grab a parking spot.
Roxborough State Park
Best for: photographers, hikers, nature lovers
The red rock formations at Roxborough make an incredible backdrop as the sun drops behind the foothills. It’s especially beautiful in late summer when the grasses turn golden.
Good to know: Check park hours before planning a sunset visit since access is limited after closing. No dogs are allowed in Roxborough State Park. You will either need to pay the state park entry fee or have the Colorado Go Wild Pass.
Bluffs Regional Park Trail
Best for: families, walkers, nearby residents
Centrally located in Douglas County, Bluffs Regional Park in Lone Tree is one of the easiest places to get a big payoff without a big hike. The elevated trail gives you views of the Front Range and the surrounding area.
Rueter-Hess Reservoir
Best for: Water views, something different
The reservoir offers a unique sunset setting with sandstone bluffs, trails, and views toward the surrounding landscape. Local outfitters such as Surf’SUP Colorado regularly host evening sunset paddle events and rentals during the summer months. The Incline Trail area provides elevated views, including views toward Longs Peak and Pikes Peak on clear days.
Good to Know: Access rules and hours vary, so check before heading out. No swimming is allowed in the reservoir. There is a $10 fee. Register to visit before you go.
Backcountry Wilderness Area

Park at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch and take a short hike up the Douglas County East/West Trail to the Sundial, where on a clear day you will have views of neighboring mountain peaks and the Denver skyline.

Enjoy breathtaking views of the Front Range as the sun dips behind the Rockies, creating a perfect end to your day. Hikes leave from the Backcountry Wilderness Area and cost $5. No dogs are allowed in the Backcountry Wilderness Area.
